Area Agency on Aging

Tioga County has one of the older median ages in Pennsylvania. The Area Agency on Aging (AAA) office at Wellsboro Plaza is the front door to the services that make it possible for adults 60 and over to stay in their homes and their communities — right here, not in a facility somewhere else.

Staff connect older residents and their caregivers with in-home assessments, home-delivered and congregate meals, transportation to medical appointments, benefits counseling through the APPRISE program (Medicare, Medicaid, prescription assistance, LIHEAP), caregiver support and respite, protective services for at-risk older adults, and referrals to skilled home care and long-term living options.

Care managers work one-on-one with families to build a plan that fits — arranging meals for a widowed neighbor, helping a family navigate a dementia diagnosis, or setting up in-home support after a hospital discharge. The office also organizes activities, wellness programs, and volunteer opportunities that keep older adults engaged.

Being on Route 6 next to Guthrie, US Renal Care, and the state health center means an 80-year-old can often handle several errands and appointments in a single trip — a small logistical fact with a huge quality-of-life impact.
